SPECIAL FUN FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Our programs incorporate the mission of the YMCA by assisting parents in teaching children to respect each other through courtesies such as waiting on line, asking permission, taking turns, role modeling-which are emerging skills for the young child with special needs. The program encourages esteem building and gives parents an outlet and opportunity to interact with their child in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment.

SPECIAL NEEDS GROUP

SWIM LESSONS

A one-to-one ratio provides individualized attention in a quite atmosphere. Children age four+ will work on basic swim skills. Classes will be offered on

Thursdays from 6:00-6:30PM in the Finne Pool.

Rates: Ten week session

$50 family membership

Kids Club/Teens Club

Ages 5-12 & 13-19

Both clubs are for special needs children and with parent. They are designed to help children make friends. Activities are age-based, casual, and according to abilities, while parents will be able to socialize and network.

Meets on twice a month on Wednesdays

Kids Club( ages 5-12) 6:00-6:50pm

Teens Club ( ages 13-19) 7:00-8:00pm

3 month enrollment $30 club fee

The Metuchen YMCA is dedicated to providing high-quality and affordable programs. The YMCA’s Enrichment Department has served families and their children since 1995 and it continues to bring programs to the Metuchen and Edison community.

The Enrichment Department offers parent/child, pre-school and youth classes that include music, dance, fitness and socialization.

Parent-child classes enable parents and their children to benefit from movement exploration, body awareness, gross motor coordination, hand-eye coordination and a variety of other important building blocks to healthy physical, intellectual and social development. Children enjoy group songs, movement activities, inflatable toys, art-n-crafts and parachute play in a 45 minute class.

The Enrichment preschool and school age programs teach children the fundamentals of science, exploration, art and drama. The classes are designed with special themes and interest to target specific age groups. Children have the opportunity to be part of a drama production, share in group science experiments, and create their very own crafts that last a life time.
